Network Rail Beacon Bridge Complete

The second Beacon Bridge has been built in Abergavenny. Davies Maguire developed the bridge design for the Network Rail Footbridges & Subways pattern book, as a modern, fully accessible interpretation of the traditional railway footbridge.

The design is characterised by its minimalist steel structure, and the internal tower illumination which gives it its name. Toughened glass side panels avoid dark enclosed spaces, intended to make users feel safe when travelling alone and at night.

Working with Haskoll Architects, we also developed a parametric BIM tool which can be used to rapidly optimise the generic design to the individual requirements of any station. Users can quickly extract cost estimates and detailed material quantities, reducing design time and the overall project schedule by moving more quickly from programme to final and approved design.
