One Thames City – N6

N6 building is part of the One Thames City development located in Nine Elms over the existing site occupied by New Covent Garden Flower Market.

Davies Maguire were instructed by MACE to carry out an initial study to optimize the Stage 3 design. The collaboration with MACE continued with the appointment to provide structural engineering services for the concrete frame detailed design.

The concrete frame is a 19-storey premium residential building with high end specifications. The frame is built around a slip-formed core with perimeter precast columns and in-situ RC slabs. The envelope features ornate precast elements supported off the main frame with further precast balconies fronting the main elevation.

Value was brought to the project by carefully optimizing the RC floors reinforcement quantity, by detailing appropriately the connection to perimeter columns and the internal core. Precast splice details were developed between the column stacks to aid the frame contractor with installation, while considering requirements for disproportionate collapse and fire resistance. Interfaces with the cladding were designed to meet both movement and aesthetic requirements.

The project was operated in a complete BIM environment with both consultants and subcontractors developing 3D models. The clash detection tools and extensive collaboration between all parties insured errors were significantly reduced, and optimal design decisions were agreed prior to construction works.
