Holland Park Eco Centre

A new sustainable educational centre, designed to integrate sensitively with the surrounding ecology.

The project, located in Holland Park, required the design of a new single-storey educational visitor centre to replace the existing facility. Davies Maguire developed numerous innovative solutions which tied into the Client’s vision of creating a highly sustainable building. The proposed site itself was criss-crossed by a dense arrangement of protected tree roots which led DMag to create a piled foundation strategy which suspended the ground slab from structural upstand beams which span between small diameter mini piles located between tree roots. The Eco Centre superstructure was constructed from cross-laminated timber panels and incorporated rammed earth walls, green roofs and rainwater harvesting to create an inspirational sustainable building.
