Our project Galvanise at Bethnal Green Road was awarded Highly Commended in the Engineering Excellence category at the British Construction & Infrastructure Awards 2025.
The judges described the project as ‘A remarkable demonstration of engineering excellence, transforming a 1970s warehouse through innovative steel and timber integration. The project’s inventive “endoskeleton” design and carbon-saving reuse set new standards for adaptive urban regeneration.’
The project transformed a tired 3-storey structure into a bright, modern, 6-storey commercial unit. A multitude of challenges on site were overcome using creative engineering solutions, including endoskeleton columns employed to bypass extremely low-strength existing concrete elements; a lateral extension which cantilevers over TfL infrastructure; and fire-engineered timber floors which allowed the weight of the extension to be kept low.
