Chelsea Barracks

Due to the tight site, and the requirement that all deliveries need to be made within the site perimeter, the contractors appointed us to look at the possibility of building parts of the permanent structure early, to use a construction platform to assist with logistics.

As the construction platform was to be built before the rest the structure, we had to check and design the slab to have sufficient stability and strength without the permanent structure to provide the full stability. A temporary Bridge abutment was designed as part of these works to provide access to the construction platform. This abutment was the most economical design, reducing the need for additional temporary structure and excavation work.

Working alongside Byrne Brothers, we were able to create cost and time benefits for them by ensuring the platform could be used in the temporary and permanent cases.
