The DMag Oxford office has had a busy few months, with a number of exciting projects gearing up to start on site, as well as others reaching completion.
Working with Original Field of Architecture, the new lift at University College has recently completed construction, providing step free access to the upper floor of the 1970s MCR building. Given the highly sensitive setting in an Oxford college courtyard surrounded by listed buildings, the design incorporates a low-impact, fully glazed shaft, with steel internal support structure. A new gateway through the listed stone wall makes use of a subtle steel portal frame to provide support to the existing listed archway.

This is one of several recent projects with Oxford University Estages and Oxford colleges. We have also recently produced tender design for the refurbishment of a city centre events space and café for Nuffield College, to achieve modern energy use standards within a Grade 2 listed building. Structural challenges centre on strengthening historic roof structures to support modern MEP equipment, additional insulation, and replacement of membrane roofing with slate.
Meanwhile, a flurry of larger private residential projects ranging from several extension and remodelling schemes in north Oxford and the surrounding countryside, to a new build mansion in Hampshire, have imminent starts on site. We’re excited to see these varied and bespoke stunning homes move from drawings to reality!
